A story on B1 Tuesday should have said the World Learner School is for students in first through eighth grades. The article also should have said that the school could have used fundraising to build a gymnasium. A story in Wednesday's North and East Extra sections should have said the North Suburban Rugby Club won six consecutive state tournament titles starting in 2000, when the club was formed. The Web address for tickets to the Twin Cities Food & Wine Experience is incorrectly noted on Page T6 in today's preprinted Taste section. The correct address is www.foodwineshow.com. .
Film on Benazir: Bollywood proposes, Zardari disposes
ISLAMABAD: Slain former Pakistani premier Benazir Bhutto's husband Asif Ali Zardari has shot down a Bollywood proposal to make a film on the life of his wife. The film was supposed to be co-produced by filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Karachi-based Skies Unlimited Films with veteran actress Shabana Azmi playing Bhutto. Bhatt, who was waiting to get the nod from Bhutto's family, was reportedly banking on Naheed Khan, the late premier's close aide, for getting his proposal cleared. Naheed Khan's sister Aneela Khan is a producer with Skies Unlimited and was to assist Bhatt on the project. Bhatt, who planned to base the film on the revised edition of Bhutto's book Daughter of the East , wanted to sign a formal contract with Zardari for the movie rights of the book and was sure Naheed could get the clearance for him, The News reported on Tuesday.
'Vantage' has some fascinating moments
"Vantage Point" is three-quarters of a crackling thriller. Then the last part falls apart and you leave the theater feeling rather cheated. The title refers to the way in which the story is told. Criminals, an innocent bystander, a political victim, mobile TV reporters and Secret Service agents reveal the minutes leading up to and, gradually, those after, until it all comes together at the end of a blockbuster chase. It begins as the U.S. president (William Hurt) drives into a Spanish plaza to deliver a speech that launches an international conference to draw up a treaty to end terrorist attacks. Gun shots ring out, followed minutes later by an explosion. One man says he's a policeman but his rush to the podium makes him suspicious. A man on vacation following his marital breakup (Forest Whitaker) believes his camera has captured the chief executive's assassin.
MPs fear Terror Bill switches power from Scots to English courts
However, last night Scotland Office Minister David Cairns accused the UK Government's political opponents of "another example of a manufactured division between us on an issue where we need to stand together". He added: "The Scottish Executive was involved fully in the drafting of the Counter-Terrorism Bill provisions and was completely content with them." Concerns about the bill's impact on Scots law were raised yesterday in the Commons by Alistair Carmichael, the Liberal Democrats' spokesman on Scotland, who talked of the "growing concern in Scotland" about the operation of the new bill and, in particular, Clause 27, which covers the issue of jurisdiction. He asked Home Secretary Jacqui Smith if she understood the bill was "fraught with difficulty", adding: "Can she assure me if that does go on to the statute book, it will only be operated after very clear guidelines are agreed with the Lord Advocate?" The Home Secretary, however, made no mention of guidelines, the Scottish legal system or the Lord Advocate, but replied: "It's important if there are linked attacks, for example, in London and in Scotland, that it's possible through the proposals we are putting forward for both of those linked cases to be prosecuted in one place.
Awards Promote Beauty Contest
The moment Alissa Hsu Lynch spotted five Aveeno products among the winners unveiled at Allure magazine's Best of Beauty awards fete last fall, she emailed her team. "We needed to think about how we could get the news out right away," said Ms. Hsu Lynch, group product director for Aveeno, a Johnson & Johnson brand. Within weeks, the Aveeno team had designed coupons and in-store displays to feature Allure's "Best of Beauty" seal. Later this year, TV ads for Aveeno also will include the awards. The seal eventually will adorn the packaging of most of Aveeno's winning products, except for its new eczema cream, which already is decorated with an award from the National Eczema Association. .
