4 million Ohio voters expected to cast ballots By Laura Bischoff | Friday, February 29, 2008, 12:52 PM

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner made lots of changes to prepare for the March 4 primary but one practice she has yet to vanquish is "sleep-overs" where poll workers in some counties are allowed to pick up voting machines on Friday and keep them until election day.

In recent years, a poll worker in Licking County had a machine at home, figured he wouldn't have time to vote on election day, so he opened the machine and voted, she said. He got caught.

Brunner's office has instituted a strict chain of custody procedure for all voting machines, which are now sealed with tape with serial numbers.

Film fest brings Hollywood flare to Belcher Center

A longtime campus event at LeTourneau University opens to the community Feb. 29 when an amateur Film Festival moves to the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center.

The event pits short movies shot by students, and this year by residents, against each other in an awards show format. Several films will be shown.

"We're doing the whole red carpet thing," student coordinator James Christopherson said. "So, if people want to dress up for it, that would be neat.

"We had several very, very good films this year that, on their own, are worth coming out to see. This has always been just a smaller campus activity. This year we get to open it up (to the community). We're really excited about it."

Christopherson said about 15 amateurs submitted short film entries this year, ranging from five to 15 minutes long.

Smaller, Thinner, Lighter, Cooler Notebooks

Alienware's Area-51 m9750 offers a 64 GB SSD in addition to a 320 GB hard drive.

There are a few gotchas with this option. Since these devices are new, they may possess a few more flaws than hard disk drives. Also at the moment, this option is expensive, adding a few hundred dollars to a notebook's list price. Pricing is expected to drop as the number of laptops with this feature rises.

In addition to being more powerful, the portable devices are following the lead of cell phone vendors and becoming fashion statements. As the year closed, Micro-Star International announced its PR200 YA Edition line, which is available in Denim Blue, Coral Pink and Wasabi Green. Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) is another vendor selling notebooks -- including its 15.4-Inch Inspiron notebooks -- in multiple bright hues.

LRSSports and 3D MVP Join Forces to Revolutionize the Football ...

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- LRSSports, a product line of Springfield-based Levi, Ray & Shoup, Inc. (LRS), has teamed with 3D technology powerhouse 3D MVP to revolutionize the football coaching industry.

Together, LRSSports and 3D MVP are providing coaches the competitive edge with field-level animation of an opponent's plays. This helps a coaching staff better prepare their team by enabling them to show their players in 3D the exact formations, routes, fronts and coverages they will see on the field. Coaches can then more effectively teach the players strategy using what closely resembles a three-dimensional video game format. The 3D format dramatically increases the effectiveness of time spent in the training facility.

"We are thrilled about our partnership with 3D MVP," says Ron Wojcicki, Manager, LRSSports(R) Software.

Zane Lowe has declared his win for Best Radio Show at the Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 his best yet. The Radio 1 DJ has monopolised the category in recent years, with NME readers consistently naming his show the finest around. Speaking to NME.COM, Lowe said he was touched by the continuing loyalty. “It gets more special every time," explained the DJ. “The first time we won it for our show it was very precious, but every year it comes around you just hope that you're still connecting with the NME readers and the new music that's out there. So this is great." He added he was pleased to receive the award from presenter Jon McClure from Reverend And The Makers. “It's always nice to receive anything, but it's always an awkward situation when you go up at these things," said Lowe. “It's always weird situation so it was great to get it from a friend." McClure added his own tribute to the DJ, explaining: “He means a lot people in bands.

Restaurateur to pay $150K for hiring illegal immigrants

The owner of a chain of popular Chinese restaurants plans to plead guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from employing illegal immigrants.

Louie Li, a naturalized American from China, will pay a $150,000 fine to settle the charges, said Dave Gaouette, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Denver.

Li, also known as Ting Fu Li, will appear in U.S. District Court on March 6 at 1:30 p.m. He was arrested Dec. 21 on a complaint charging him with unlawfully harboring and transporting aliens.

Li, his wife and sister-in-law own the South Garden restaurant chain, which has locations in Denver, Parker and Castle Rock.

The restaurants remain open.

Workers said they worked for lower than minimum wage at the restaurants. They've since been deported to Mexico.
